This Musical Track License or Lease (Non Exclusive) is used by hip-hop, rap or pop producers of music recordings. Some producers leasing their musical tracks on Soundclick.com have used this contract. The producer creates the music and a recorded track which the singer/ rapper/ vocalist will sing or rap over. In this license the artist or record company is only licensing the rights to the recording and music owned by the producer of the track. The artist or record company is only licensing the music and recoding on a non-exclusive basis which means the producer has the right to license this music and track to other artists as well. The licensee pays a lower fee for this right since the producer is not selling the recorded track to the artist or label to own.
This type of agreement is usually used when an artist is just starting out and wants to create demo recordings without wanting to pay for an exclusive track or for producers who have tracks they want to license for a lower fee. The producer retains the copyright to the music and will receive a mechanical royalty from the sale of records as the writer of the music.
