This CD Artwork Design Contract is used by an artist or record label
when hiring a graphic artist to design the artwork that will be used on
the packaging of a compact disc. This contract makes the person or
company employing the graphic artist the owner of the artwork as a work
made for hire. As a result, the employer can use the artwork in any way
they want including in merchandise or on the internet. This contract
could be adapted to be used if hiring an artist to create just the
cover art or to license artwork that has already been created. However,
note that a graphic artist may want to include terms to pay the graphic
artist a royalty for certain uses of the cover art if used in
merchandise that is to be sold.
